Can I find shingles to match my house?

Malarkey asphalt shingles come in many color blends and styles so Seattle and Eastside homeowners can select the color that best matches the exterior of their home.  The colors available depend on the style of shingles though Keith, the estimator and owner of Bellevue Roofing, can show you what colors are available.

From dark colors (Black Oak and Midnight Black) to gray tones (Storm Grey) to many shades of brown (Natural Wood, Weathered Wood, Antique Brown and Heather) to light colors (Silverwood), there’s many colors from which to choose.

Are Malarkey asphalt shingles considered green?

Malarkey has incorporated many green practices to improve the sustainability of their company’s products and operation.

These include storm water management, waste diversion from landfills and using repurposed materials in our shingles.

In addition, we also consider asphalt shingles to be environmentally friendly since they are constructed to last longer and therefore, need not be replaced as often as some other brands.

Is it a good idea to power wash my roof?

We don’t recommend it but luckily Malarkey engineered a solution for us.  They created an asphalt shingle with Algae Resistance to combat moss growth and the unsightly black streaks caused by algae growth.

How does it work?  The shingles are made with a blend of algae resistance granules to help maintain the aesthetic appearance of your roof by resisting the black streaks caused by algae, which may reduce the need to clean your roof. Malarkey also has shingles with Scotchgard Protection from 3M, which have 3M Copper Roofing granules for added protection from algae growth.

For added durability and to help the granules stay in place, Malarkey shingles feature Flexor or Nexgen polymer modified asphalts.  This technology increases flexibility, granule adhesion and impact resistance from the elements and helps the granules stay in place for continued protection.

Is there a way to avoid streaking on shingles?

Install shingles with Malarkey’s Streak Resist Technology.

The copper roofing granules slowly release copper ions, which resist algae growth and prevent black streaks from appearing on your shingles.

The copper ions gradually disperse over time, which varies depending on the level of concentration on the shingle.

For example, these shingles come rated for 5,10 and 12 years of protection against algae with Streak Resist roofing shingles.

Does Malarkey manufacture a shingle that will keep my roof cool?

A cool roof helps to reflect the sunlight (and the heat associated with it) away from your home.  This reduces the temperature of the roof and helps your home stay cool, so you don’t have to run your air conditioner as much.  The amount you save may be as much as 50 cents per square foot though that depends on the outside temp and your preferred inside temp.

The Highlander line of shingles offers Dove White and Golden Amber colored shingles, which reflect damaging solar rays to reduce heat from entering your home.
