While all asphalt shingles are a great value and affordable, laminated architectural shingles have a more substantial look than the ordinary 3-tab style you see on so many houses.

A previous post focused on 3-tab asphalt shingles whereas this post details Malarkey’s line of laminated architectural shingles for residential homes.

What are laminated shingles?

Architectural or laminated shingles are made by sealing two shingles together with a lamination adhesive. In the traditional style of architectural shingle, the top layer is cut into a sawtooth pattern and adhered to an uncut second layer called the backer or shim.

This gives the shingle a more dimensional look as opposed to the flat look of the 3-tab shingles. In addition, special color blends of granules create a shadow line to further emphasize the dimensional factor to create a more upscale appearance.

Architectural shingles lasts longer than 3-tab

Laminated architectural shingles are thicker and therefore, have a longer life span and warranty than 3-tab shingles.

They also offer a different look that appeals to Seattle’s Eastside homeowners in Kirkland, Redmond, Mercer Island, Issaquah and Sammamish who want a richer look for their house.
